IMPACTO DO USO DO TELEMÓVEL A MESA

THE IMPACT OF USING CELL PHONES AT THE TABLE

“A Mesa Pede Presença” invites Luanda residents to enjoy a meal without their cell phones and draws attention to the impact of screens on in-person social interaction.

Rocim challenges Luanda residents to put away their cell phones during meals and rekindle conversation at the table through the “A Mesa Pede Presença” campaign, which kicked off this Wednesday in Luanda and runs through October 10.

At eight participating restaurants, during dinner, customers will be invited to place their cell phones in a box and refrain from using them throughout the entire meal. Tables will also feature cards with questions and conversation topics, in an experience designed to refocus attention on the people and the shared moment.

The campaign addresses an increasingly common behavior: although we are constantly connected, the use of cell phones and social media is also beginning to compete for our attention during in-person social gatherings.

The aim is not to reject technology, but to prompt reflection on the space that screens occupy in our daily relationships. For David Moisés, Marketing and Sales Director at MultiÁfrica, the initiative is also an invitation to preserve one of the most important aspects of Angolan social life. “A table can be full of people and yet empty of attention. In Angola, sitting at the table is part of how we socialize, build relationships, and create memories. With ‘A Mesa Pede Presença,’ we want to value attention, active listening, and uninterrupted conversations. Technology brings us closer to those who are far away, but it shouldn’t take the place of those right in front of us,” he says.

Meanwhile, influencer Erik Belo, the face of the campaign, takes the theme to the streets of Luanda to hear different perspectives on people’s relationship with their phones and the difficulty of disconnecting.

The discussion also extends to health and well-being, with the participation of psychologist Geisiane Dias, functional chef Sandra Luís, and fitness trainer Carla Nunes.

Throughout the campaign, the three will address hyperconnectivity and its impacts on mental health, nutrition, relationships, well-being, and quality of life, reinforcing the importance of creating moments of pause and presence outside the digital environment. “This initiative draws attention to an increasingly prevalent reality: we are constantly connected, but not always available to those right beside us.

Reclaiming conversation, listening, and presence also means reclaiming the quality of our relationships,” says Erik Belo. Through October 10, the campaign promoted by Rocim—a wine brand available in the Angolan market and distributed by MultiÁfrica—will be featured at the following restaurants: Alvalade 61, 1001 Sabores, Hotel Horizonte, Cenáculo, Bessangana, Pátio Luanda, Futur Almeida, and Touro na Brasa.

The campaign extends to nine supermarkets and six informal market locations, totaling 23 establishments in Luanda, where consumers will have access to the conversation cards and other offers associated with the initiative.
